Driving into Summer Traveling

     Summer is just around the corner, and people are ready to pack for vacation. However, with new guidelines and the Covid vaccine, airlines might limit your opportunities to travel outside of the country. “Covid-19 has made traveling really difficult over the past year,” Ms. Howe, an English teacher at Eisenhower, expressed to The Squire. “Although it is becoming better, as some places are allowing proof of a negative Covid test or vaccination for traveling.” Ms. Howe, an avid traveler, has also wanted to visit Greece to see the historical sights and stay at one of the islands. “I will get there some day, but it will have to be once traveling [out of the US] that far is a little more feasible.” While trying to keep safe during these difficult times, families can plan a car trip or even a Covid safe trip throughout the United States.

Casting into Trout Season

     When the temperature starts to rise and the water starts to thaw, you know trout season is just around the corner. Grab your rods, bait, fishing license and head to your favorite fishing spot because this year trout season started on April 3rd. Many students around the county fish during trout season, so The Squire interviewed WAHS senior, James Swanson, about his experiences and tips for success during trout season. Swanson shared with us that he has been fishing since he was three years old, and it was his family who got him started at such a young age “…because it runs in the family to fish and hunt.”

Gunning a Spring Gobbler

     With spring comes the sounds of birds back from winter migration. One easily distinguished sound from a bird, although not migratory, is the gobble of the Eastern Wild Turkey. With gobbles ramping up, it means one thing – spring turkey season is here. For new hunters all the way up to the seasoned veteran, The Squire is here to help. We got in touch with local Scandia tom killing legend and Eisenhower High School alumni, Paul Swanson, to learn more about preparing for spring gobbler season.
