Quarantine Can be Fun

By: Owen Trumbull

For everyone, I’m sure quarantine due to Covid-19 has been different. Some have really enjoyed it, while for others it has been the worst. For me, it has been one of the best times of my life.

As a hunter, the Pennsylvania Spring turkey season is what I’ve found myself partaking in during self-isolation. The season kicked off on Saturday, May 2. Hunting allows me a safe and fun way to relax. Although I have not killed a turkey yet this season, it has offered me more of a chance to fill a tag.

Being in nature is also an amazing way to spend time during the pandemic. During my time hunting, I have seen some amazing things. From sunrises to amazing views, nature has it all.

You may ask, how can I incorporate nature into my quarantine without being a hunter? The answer is simple; just get out in the woods and hike. The Allegheny National Forest offers a great place to do this. With spots such as the Kinzua Dam, Rim Rock, Jake’s Rocks, and Bent Run Falls, it has several different settings to offer.

I personally believe that you can enjoy the quarantine without being outside as well. If you are more of an inside kind of person, there are plenty of options to keep you entertained. Some of my friends have been playing video games as well as watching Netflix or Hulu. I enjoy listening to music to pass time when I’m stuck indoors. Music offers another activity for indoor folks during this time.

As a guitar owner myself, a hobby such as playing an instrument could be helpful as well. It is a way to learn new things as well as pass time. There are many hobbies and you can find one that sparks your interest and pursue it. It is a great time to learn something new.

The last thing you might be wondering about is hanging out with friends. Without being able to go to each other’s houses, it is tough, but there is always a way around this problem. Video chatting on a program such as Zoom can help and allows you to have some screen-to-screen time with friends.

The most important thing to remember during the Covid-19 outbreak is to stay safe. There are a ton of things to do to keep busy and creative, which will help time pass more quickly. Find something that interests you and take this time of isolation to learn more about it!
