Don’t have a Valentine this year? No problem! A great alternative is Galentine’s Day. This is a day to celebrate female friendships. Galentine’s Day was given to us by Amy Poehler from the show Parks and Recreation. In the episode about this no longer fake holiday, she mentions the presents she got for her “Galentine’s.” Many women have adopted this micro-holiday since then and have made it popular around the world. This tradition is now celebrated every year on February thirteenth, also known as Valentine’s Day eve.
The Squire’s mid-winter Student Spotlight is shining on Eisenhower senior, Ava Nizzi. Ava was the captain of the soccer team this year and has played the sport for the past four years. She is also the Vice President of National Honor Society and Student Council. Ava is a hard-worker and gives her all in everything she does, making her a great candidate for the Student Spotlight.
As February begins and winter continues, a new increasing series of illnesses have begun spreading throughout our schools and communities. The prevention of these illnesses can easily occur. However, many people neglect these common preventions, such as washing your hands and understanding the spread.
