Get Decorative this Fall

By: Paige Edwards

As we all know, fall has arrived here in Warren County, and, along with the new season, comes festive decorating. Fall is a cozy time of year, which means plaid, pumpkins, and warm colors become popular. The Squire sat down with local interior designer, Sarah Edwards of Renovation Inspiration, to talk about some of her fall favorites. We talked about everything from fall colors to textures and prints.

Having Fun at Fall Festivals

 By: Hannah Newcamp

With the leaves changing colors and the air getting colder, it is not hard to tell that fall has arrived. To celebrate this fall season, many fall festivals are starting back up after taking a year off due to Covid. There are a lot of festivals that take place around Warren County. From pumpkin farms to art festivals, there are different types of festivals for everyone to enjoy.

At the Sheffield Memorial Park, there was the annual Johnny Appleseed festival that took place on Friday, October 8 through Sunday October 10. On Friday, the festival kicked off with opening ceremonies and registration for the weekend’s cornhole tournament. The cornhole tournament took place Friday, at 5 p.m., along with a professional Lumberjack and Lumberjill competition soon after. On Saturday and Sunday, there was a breakfast concession stand served by Sheffield Rotary. At 10 a.m. on Saturday, the Professional Lumberjack and Lumberjill competition continued, followed by a horse pull.  Later on, live bands entertained the crowd, and an apple pie baking contest took place. Ending the night, was the Lanterns to Heaven ceremony and fireworks show. Finally, on Sunday, there was a tractor pull and the finale of the Professional Lumberjack and Lumberjill competition. The event isn’t just for adults. Each day, there was a Kids’ Sawdust Pile and Fun Zone open for the children to go and play. For more information check out the festival’s website 2021 Brochure – Johnny Appleseed Festival.

Peek’n Peak is hosting their 33rd Annual Fall Fest during the 9- 10 and 16- 17 of October. With more than 100 vendors, there is plenty to do at the festival! The festival is known for their Pumpkin Cannons and all of the different vendors they have. The Peek’n Peak Fall Fest has a Kids’ Zone, Frisbee Dogs Show, magic show, Wildlife Adventure Show, live music, and carriage rides, making it a fun experience for the whole family. Located by a hillside, the Fall Fest is adorned with bright and beautiful foliage throughout the weekends. Being a ski resort, Peek’n Peak has plenty of indoor spaces so that rain or shine the Fall Fest can still go on. You can check out Peek’n Peak’s website for information on times and vendors, 2021 Fall Fest – Peek’n Peak, The Best Fall Activity Near NY, PA, and OH (pknpk.com).

The Squire had the opportunity to go to Port Farms to check out this year’s Fall Harvest Festival. Port Farms has attractions for the whole family. Their giant slides and eight-acre corn maze allow for adults and teens to feel like kids again. The Fall Harvest at Port Farms is open from September 18 to October 31 and is open all week except for Mondays and Tuesdays. The farm also has many types of activities that suit just about everyone. There are some attractions that will not be open this season, so to check for updates on these attractions go to Fall Harvest Festival at Port Farms | Waterford, Pennsylvania. From feeding the farm animals to launching apple cannons, the fun at Port Farms is endless. New this year to the festival are live music weekends, Tiny Town, a ropes course, and much more.

When looking for a way to celebrate the fall season, consider checking out a local festival. With activities for the whole family, you are sure to have a fun time. So, go pick out some pumpkins, get lost in a corn maze, and just enjoy the fun that comes along with fall festivals!

Rolling into Fall Baking

By: Taylor Napolitan

The fall season is quickly approaching, leading more people to get into the festive spirit. While the weather gets colder, getting cozy with some seasonal baked goods will warm up your fall season. One of my family’s favorite fall treats is pumpkin rolls. Pumpkin rolls are a delicious way to bring the fall season to your family dinners, fall parties, and even just your friends who want a fall treat. The sweet pumpkin cake that gets rolled up with the sweet cream cheese filling and dusted with powdered sugar adds a bit of spice to your fall. The Squire interviewed Eisenhower’s baking and home interiors teacher, Mrs. Criswell, to get an inside scoop on baking.
