Ellie Strausser Takes the Spotlight

By: Zoie Olsen

For our Spring issue of The Squire, we decided to turn the student spotlight to a certain outstanding senior. Ellie Strausser is one of the top three students in the class of 2021. She is also President of the senior class, as well as President of National Honor Society. Ellie has been active in both soccer and basketball through the school and was named captain of the soccer team this past season as well.

An impressive academic student, Ellie has also received the Merit Honor Roll Award every year throughout high school. Ellie’s schedule here at Eisenhower is filled with AP and Honors classes, as well as her classes at Warren Area High School, where she travels to for her morning classes.

Ellie is excited to start the next chapter of her life, but she will be missed by many here at Eisenhower. To get more information on Ellie’s high school career and college plans, The Squire sat down with her for a quick interview.

The Squire: What are your plans for after high school?

Ellie Strausser: After high school, I am attending Mercyhurst University to double major in Biochemistry and Public Health.

TS: What are you going to miss most about Eisenhower?

Ellie Strausser: I am going to miss seeing my friends and teachers every day and playing sports as a Lady Knight.

TS: We are aware you have been active in both soccer and basketball. How has that helped you throughout your time here at Eisenhower?

ES: Soccer has taught me about leadership and responsibility, and basketball has helped me develop my ability to adapt and learn new things. It especially taught me that I am not going to be good at everything I do and how to deal with that. Sports has taught me the importance of staying in shape and the concept of time management.

TS: What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

ES: In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with my friends and watching movies.

TS: You have been class president for four years, as well as being named President of National Honor Society this year. What kind of jobs do you normally take on while having these titles?

ES: With the title of class President, I have overseen fundraising, along with planning graduation this year. As National Honor Society President, I oversee organizing the school’s food pantry, the food drive, running Honor Society meetings, and organizing any other volunteer activities that may come up.

TS: What is your favorite class this year, and why?

ES: This may make me sound like a nerd, but it must be my AP Calculus class because it goes more in depth into the material I have been learning for the past five years. I also know that it will be a tremendous help when I take my math classes in college.

Ellie is an exceptional student, and an outgoing person. She is also an excellent leader both on the field and through her clubs. Everyone here at The Squire would like to wish her the best of luck as she sets off for her new journey.
