Many teens start working while in high school, but some may struggle with finding a good job or feeling unprepared for an interview. Whether you want to work in fast food, at a golf course, or in a store, there are a few easy things to do to help you get the job you desire.

In most cases, when you want a job somewhere, you need to apply first either online or at the location. The employer will most likely want a resume with all your personal information, basic skills, and experiences. After your resume is looked over and the employer likes what they see, an interview usually follows.

It is best to be as prepared as possible for the interview and try to make the best first impression. The first thing you can do is spend some time studying the job description and learning everything you can about the company. You should also think about what skills, accomplishments, strengths, and weaknesses you have to help answer common interview questions. Practicing your speaking voice and body language can help you stick out to the employer. Employers will often ask you if you have any questions for them, so it may be helpful to think of some before sitting down for your interview. To help calm your nerves, find someone to pretend to be the interviewer and conduct a mock interview so you can be better prepared.

Once you’ve been hired for the job, you’ll find it is important to have a good work ethic. Showing up on time, working hard, and doing what you’re supposed to do are some of the best things you can do to be a good worker.

To know more about what it takes to be a hard worker, The Squire sat down with Eisenhower senior, Adrian Brown. Adrian Brown has been a car detailer at Shultz for about eleven months. As a detailer, he cleans customer’s cars so that they look brand new, off the production line. He shared that a good skill to have for his job is being good with your hands and also being good under pressure. He also mentioned that working hard is very important to be able to get tips, raises, and promotions. He plans on owning his own shop one day and advised, “If you really want something, you have to work for it first.”
