EMHS Choirs Sing Carols After the Holidays

By: Shannon Kellogg

Some may refuse to listen to Christmas music before Thanksgiving, but the EMHS Choirs started caroling in September! After preparing for almost the entire first semester, the choir students preformed their annual holiday concert on January 3, 2018. It was directed by Joy McMonigal and accompanied on piano by sophomore, Hunter Peterson. The original date was set for before Christmas, but it was postponed due to harsh weather conditions.

The concert featured Senior Choir, as well as Middle Level Choirs, and Fantasia. A few of the more popular songs sung by Senior Choir included two arrangements by the acapella group Pentatonix; “White Winter Hymnal,” which included hand percussion, and “That’s Christmas to Me,” which had a slideshow of childhood Christmas photos of the singers made by Morgan Genung. Following the traditions set by past directors, the concert ended with the classics “Candle of Hope” and “O, Holy Night” that were sung in candle light surrounding the audience.

A new tradition started by the current teacher, Ms. McMonigal, included the Senior Choir entering for the second half of the show on either side of the auditorium and singing “Silent Night” in English and German as they ascended to the risers. As Ms. McMonigal says, Christmas music is great because it puts everybody in a good mood. The students worked hard this first semester and put on an amazing concert that awed many.

The Eisenhower Choirs encourage you all to come out and support them on May 15th, 2018 for the Spring Concert.
