There are many exciting things for girls’ fall sports happening this year, especially the soccer team. The soccer team’s record so far is 8-3. They just beat the top team in their region, Seneca in a double overtime. The girls also have a great chance at being region champions. While the volleyball team has not won many games, the teamwork aspect has improved incredibly. They have high hopes for next year’s season. The girls cross country team has had an impressive season so far due to a little friendly, teammate competition. Below are interviews with one girl from each team.
Girls’ Soccer
The Squire: How do you feel about your season so far?
Lydia Giannini: We are much better than last year, we feel we will make it to playoffs, and we are happy about our new coaches.
TS: How do you feel about the rest of your season?
LG: I feel really good about the rest of the season. I think we have a good team that can go far.
TS: Why do you think you won or lost your most recent game?
LG: Offense and passing was good, we played as a team and had good ball control.
TS: What are your goals for the rest of the season?
LG: To advance and go far in playoffs.
TS: How do you see your team making it to playoffs?
LG: We just need to keep winning our games and play smart together.
TS: What team do you like playing the best and why?
LG: Maplewood, because it’s always a good game and they’re a rival.
TS: Are there any standout athletes on your team?
LG: TerryLee Talasky, she is a good captain, she keeps us all in line when we get out of control, and she helps us act more serious.
Girls’ Cross Country
The Squire: How do you feel about your season so far?
Brielle Whitney: We have improved from last year, we are working harder this year, and overall team scores have improved.
TS: How do you feel about the rest of your season?
BW: I think our home course will be hard to run on but after that meet, we should all be hitting personal records.
TS: Why do you think you won or lost your most recent meet?
BW: It was very hot. The heat made it difficult, we were outnumbered by the runners on the other team.
TS: What are your goals for the rest of the season?
BW: To win our meets and to beat my personal records.
TS: How do you see your team making it to districts?
BW: Top seven of every team automatically go.
TS: What team do you like competing against the best and why?
BW: Fort Lebouf, there is always a good race for every runner.
TS: Are there any standout athletes on the cross country team?
BW: Lily Fedorchuck, she’s fast and always pushes herself to be up with the runners in the front.
Girls’ Volleyball
The Squire: How do you feel about your season so far?
Cameran Edwards: I like that we changed our lineup.
TS: How do you feel about the rest of your season?
CE: Hopefully we will win more games with the changes made.
TS: Why do you think you won or lost your most recent game?
CE: I think we lost because we didn’t practice the changes before we used it in a game so we were all a little confused.
TS: What are your goals for the rest of the season?
CE: To win more games.
TS: How do you see your team making it to playoffs?
CE: I don’t, at least not this year.
TS: What team do you like playing the best and why?
CE: Youngsville, because the crowd is good and it’s always a close game.
TS: Are there any standout athletes on the volleyball team?
CE: No, we each have our own individual talents and come together as a team.
