During the winter season, there is a chorus of coughs and sneezes. Kids are gone from school for days from the fever and flu, all because of the lack of sunlight or lack of activity from the winter season. I’ve even suffered from missing school from being sick. There are some ways to strengthen your immune system and prevent you from catching the flu, fever, or whatever making you not feel one hundred percent. The Squire sat down with the nurse, Mrs. Wagner, to learn some ways to prevent the miserable winter illnesses.
The Squire: What vitamins should I take to stay healthy?
Mrs. Wagner: Vitamin C, Vitamin D, and a Multi Vitamin.
TS: What are some basic things I can do daily to stay healthy?
MW: Eating healthy foods such as fruits, vegetables, dairy, and different sources of protein. Stay away from greasy foods and artificial foods.
TS: What exercise helps with your immune system?
MW: Well, not just exercising will help, but eating healthy daily and sleeping an adequate amount of time will help your immune system.
TS: What is the best time to work out?
MW: Whatever works for you so either in the morning or at night, but I’ve heard from other people that working out later at night makes it harder for you to go to sleep.
TS: What foods should I eat not to be sick?
MW: Good, healthy balanced diet not consisting of fast food, and more of whole foods.
TS: How much sleep should I get?
MW: It depends on your age, but the younger you are, the more sleep you need. High schoolers generally need eight hours of sleep.
TS: If I do get sick what do you recommend to do to get better?
MW: It depends on how sick you are. If you have just a cold, make sure you are drinking liquids and staying hydrated. If it is more serious, I’d recommend seeing a doctor to get it diagnosed for a cure.
Hopefully, this is helpful for the next time you get sick or can help prevent you from becoming sick. These tips will help with any concerns of getting sick or preventing it from happening. I have started to use these tips on a daily basis and I definitely believe that these tips work. So, next time you feeling down, remember these tips because it could save you from having a sick day or missing a day from school.
