The fall season brings many different events to the Eisenhower Middle High School campus. One of the biggest highlights is the Homecoming Dance. Many look forward to the preparation and execution of all the details coming together to make a great night, though extensive planning is required to make it a night to remember.
When it comes to organization, setting up the Homecoming dance came with a few hurdles. The Squire interviewed Payton Elms about some of the challenges they faced. She described building the décor and incorporating more interactive games than in previous years. To stay ahead during planning, the committee set up props prior to the night of the dance. They also recruited volunteers to assist with decorations and secured donations for several of the supplies used.
Although the majority of the preparation is handled by Student Council, the school community as a whole can also help build Homecoming spirit. When The Squire asked Payton Elms what the student body could do to assist, she shared, “The student body can help by participating in spirit week, advertising Homecoming to their friends, and buying tickets themselves.”
With the theme being “A Knight out West,” students went into the dance expecting the cafeteria to transform into a wild west scene. Not only did the décor align perfectly with the theme, but there were also western-themed games, along with the addition of a live DJ. The DJ was a new feature this year compared to previous years, when music was provided directly by Student Council.
Many students hoped to have a great time, whether it was a freshman’s first dance or a senior’s last Homecoming. To ensure everyone had a fun-filled night, Payton advised students to attend with close friends and focus on whatever activities they found most entertaining.
Whether playing games, dancing through the night, taking photos in the photo booth, or enjoying slushies from the specialized slushy bar, students clearly enjoyed spending time together while appreciating all the effort Student Council put into the event.
It can be difficult to plan and prepare such a large event, but with Student Council’s hard work and the support of the student body, Homecoming was a Knight out West that everyone enjoyed. The Squire appreciates Payton Elms sharing her perspective on this memorable evening!
