     Every year football season comes to a close with the most exciting game of the year, the Super Bowl. Fans everywhere sit around their tv’s and watch with anticipation, wondering who will win. This year’s game was no different.

     The Super Bowl in an annual football championship, which has been a part of the NFL every year since 1967. It serves as the as the final game of the year, announcing one team as the football champions for that season.  

       This year’s Super Bowl teams were the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bangles, who both fought their way to the top of the football titles. The Bangles won against the Chiefs 34-31, which landed the Bangles in the Super Bowl. The Rams also made their way to the big game this year with their win of 20-17 against the San Francisco 49ers.

       Football has been a part of America’s history for a long time. Many people love the sport for many different reasons. The Squire interviewed huge football fan, EHS football coach, and teacher at Eisenhower, Mr. Jim Penley, to find out some of his thoughts and predictions about the super bowl. When asked his favorite aspect of the game,Penley said that to him the athleticism paired up brutality of the sport is exciting to watch unfold on the field. Many football fans can agree with that statement. The Super Bowl really proved that those aspects of the sport are true.

      The Super Bowl took place on February 13. After finding out the two teams going to the Super Bowl, Penley predicts that the Rams will win the 2022 competition, saying, “…I think the Rams defense and the fact that this is an opportunity for Stafford to finally get into the playoffs and show that he has been one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL just leads me to think that this is the Rams year.”  Just like Penley predicted, the Rams won the exciting game, with a final score of 23-20.

     Although Penley said that he thought the Rams will win, Penley went into the game with hopes high that Cincinnati would take the win.  Even with conflicting thoughts regarding who was going to win the game, he shared that, “…what I really hope for is a great game.”

     A big part of this great game is the half time show. The half-time show is an event between both halves of the game, with the first ever being held in 1968.  For some, the half-time show is the best part of the game. The lineup for the 2022 half time show was Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J Blige, and Kendrick Lamar, and they did not disappoint.

     Many fans were super excited for this year’s lineup. When asked about his opinion on the half time show line up Penley had this to say, “I honestly don’t even know who’s in the halftime show, but generally the people they pick, I tend to enjoy and love watching.” Most people can agree that no matter who is performing, the half time show is entertaining and a great part of the Super Bowl.

     Whether you watch the game for the half-time show, the commercials, or the game. It is an exciting event that everyone across America can enjoy. Congratulations to the Rams on their hard-earned win!
