This week’s teacher spotlight is Mr. Heubach, a middle school science teacher for grades 6, 7, and 8. He is also the advisor for Key Club. Through the interview, we learned a great deal about Mr. Heubach, his hobbies, and what he likes most about teaching here at Eisenhower. Let’s get started!
The Squire: What classes do you teach here at Eisenhower, and do you teach any online schooling?
Mr. H: This year, I teach seventh grade Life Science, eighth grade Physical Science, and the sixth grade science elective.
TS: What is your favorite thing about the classes that you teach?
Mr. H: The interaction with the kids. I enjoy it when they enjoy the class. When the students get involved in a lab or a discussion- that is great. I try to keep the atmosphere light, but on topic most of the time.
TS: What do you like about the atmosphere here at Eisenhower?
Mr. H: I think we have a great group of adults who really want to see the students succeed. It amazes me how much the staff here at Ike really does for the students behind the scene. I can’t say enough good things about them. I also think the student body in general are a great group of students. I really enjoy coming to work every day and it is because of the students!
TS: If you could pick a class to add to the curriculum that you could teach, what would it be?
Mr. H: Oh, something like, “real world problems,” which is basically what students would expect to see in the real world when they graduate. Being my son just graduated a couple years ago, he is coming to me asking questions about banking, insurance, rent, etc. I think there should be an elective on this for juniors and seniors so they aren’t blindsided when growing up.
TS: What was your favorite subject growing up?
Mr. H: Well, I would have to say my middle school science teacher and my high school band teacher made those classes really fun.
TS: What are your favorite things to do outside of school?
Mr. H: [I] probably [most enjoy] working around my house and reading.
TS: Out of all the sports that we have here at EHS which one is the most enjoyable in your opinion, and why?
Mr. H: I always love watching the students participate. I tell my students to give me their schedule at the beginning of the season and I will make it to at least one of their home games. My youngest son currently does football and basketball, so I would have to say that those would probably be my favorites!
That wraps up our interview with Mr. Heubach, who is quite the interesting person, as this interview reveals! Thanks for reading and watch out for the next edition of teacher spotlight. Next time you see Mr. Heubach say hi, and maybe you’ll learn a bit more about him.
