This fall, the EHS Academic Bowl team has been working hard to prepare for their season. So far, their hard work has paid off. Led by their coach, Mrs. Ludwig, the team has won their first two matches against Gowanda and Randolph respectively. Naomi Haight was named MVP of the first match, and later became the team captain. The team practices during homeroom on Tuesday and Thursday mornings and looks forward to many more successful matches this season. Good luck, team!

Fighting Under Friday Night Lights
By Thomas Warren The Knights came out and fought hard, but didn’t come out with the win, this Homecoming. The Knights faced off against rival and last year’s region champs, the Iroquois Braves. Even though Iroquois is undefeated, The Knights looked to come out and make a statement. However, the combination of turnovers and lack of focus forced The Knights to be down 21-0 at half.
Knights came out in the second half and put up two touchdowns. First,junior quarterback, Spencer Head, put the ball in the air to junior, Jaydon Hayes, for a touchdown and then senior, Bryon Braswell, added another on the ground. The game really got exciting when Ross Venman came out and kicked two points after the touchdown.
Unfortunately, the Knights couldn’t get it done on defensive side of the ball, with the strong running game of the Braves adding a few more touchdowns to take the win 44-14 over EHS. The Squire took time to get a different point of view from two senior captains, Adam Pascuzzi and John Bortz.
The Squire: What was the expectation going into Friday night?
John Bortz: To come out strong with good intensity and execute our game plan.
TS: How do you think Friday night went as a whole?
JB: If we didn’t have four turnovers, it would have been a different story.
TS: As a captain, how do you think do you bring your team up when they are down?
JB: I work at communicating better and encouraging them even if there is adversity.
TS: What do you think held the Knights back from the win on Friday?
JB: Ball security, not staying focused when needed.
The Squire asked the same questions to other senior captain, Adam Pascuzzi.
The Squire: What was the expectation going into Friday night?
Adam Pascuzzi: I didn’t expect us to come out the way we did; we came out sloppy and not really focused.
TS: How do you think Friday night went as a whole?
AP: Overall pretty good, but we have minor things to work on, on both sides of the ball.
TS: As a captain, how do you think do you bring your team up when they are down?
AP: I usually just bring them up by telling them we are in sight of making a big play, pick your head up, and don’t let it get you down we still have a game to play.
TS: What do you think held the Knights back from the win on Friday?
AP: Turnovers were a big factor in the game and that is one of the main things that held up back.
The Knights football team still has a few more games this season, and is looking to finishing their season with a strong winning record, so come out and support them!
Eisenhower Welcomes New Student Council Advisor

A new school year brings with it new classes, new experiences, and…a new Student Council advisor! As many of us know, previous advisor Mrs. Smith passed on the torch to a different face this year. Brand new to Eisenhower High, Miss Slattery took over the club and all of the responsibilities, including the Homecoming dance. The Squire met with Miss Slattery for the inside Homecoming scoop.
The Squire: Where did you teach before?
Amanda Slattery: Before teaching at Eisenhower Middle/High School, I taught at Tidioute Community Charter School for 10 years. I also did 1/2 a year at Eisenhower Elementary School.
TS: What classes do you teach?
AS: I am a special education teacher, but I do co-teach a Math 7, a Math 6, and an ELA7 class. When I am not co-teaching, I have students in my classroom for academic support.
TS: How do you like Eisenhower?
AS: I absolutely love working at Eisenhower. The teachers, staff, and students are amazing. Everyone has been very welcoming and is helping guide me through my first year.
TS: Why did you want to be the Student Council advisor?
AS: I had no choice…lol. Actually, I chose to become the Student Council Advisor so I could become more active within the school. I enjoy getting to know the students and being involved within the school community.
TS: What was the most difficult part of planning homecoming?
AS: Everything! This is my first year at a new school, as well as my first year as Student Council Advisor. I had no clue what I was doing. I also had a small amount of time to prepare, which made things a little stressful. The students couldn’t tell I was stressed though, so it made things go smoothly for them.
TS: How do you think the dance went overall?
AS: I feel that the dance went very well. From talking with students, they enjoyed themselves. Most students enjoyed the DJ too.
TS: What other events will Student Council be holding this year?
AS: Student Council would like to hold an apparel sale in November and December. They would also like to have another dance in January, but plans for that are still being discussed and need approved. For Teacher Appreciation Week, the Student Council will hold a breakfast for teachers, as well as show teachers how much they are appreciated throughout the week.
Being the new kid to a school can be quite challenging, but taking on the responsibilities as an advisor is a huge task in itself. The Squire wishes Miss Slattery the best of luck on her first year at EMHS and we can’t wait to see to what new heights she takes Student Council.
