Swinging into a Knight in Rio

With the Spring season also comes Prom season, a favorite time of year for many students at Eisenhower. This year, Prom Committee went all out to create an unforgettable night for everyone to enjoy.

Prom will be held at Ivory Acres in Frewsburg, NY, from 7 to 10 pm on May 9. Ivory Acres has been a popular Prom venue for the last few years, being a reoccurring location for Eisenhower’s Prom night. The theme for this year is “Rio”, featuring bursts of bright colors, outdoors, and a beachy vibe. The Squire asked Prom Committee member, Paisley Lawson, about the challenges they faced when deciding on the theme, and she explained, “We spent a lot of time deciding on our color scheme. Although it may not seem like it would take so long, it’s not always easy to find matching colors that everyone can agree on.”

In addition to planning and organizing Prom, the Prom Committee has also arranged a creative spirit week leading up to the dance to get everyone in Prom spirit. The week starting off on Monday May 4 is Brazil color day, where students are to wear blue, yellow, or green as a representation of Brazil. Tuesday, May 5 is Beach Day, where you can show off your beach vibes with floaties, goggles, and other beachwear. Wednesday, May 6 is Carnival Day; students should wear bright vibrant colors. Thursday May 7 is Color War Day; each grade is assigned a color, to which they can then participate in color war activities organized by Prom committee. This event has been held in the past and is always a popular way among students and staff to raise spirits and have fun while doing so. For class colors, Freshmen are to wear yellow, Sophomores are green, Juniors are pink, and Seniors wear blue. Finally, the week will end with Print Day on Friday, May 8; students can wear cheetah print or camouflage to fit the theme.

Getting to help plan such an important event can be exciting but also stressful, Lawson shared in a positive light, “It’s something to look forward to on my week, it’s fun getting to see the behind the scenes of Prom and watch it come together.” With Prom quickly approaching, final details and ideas are being put together to ensure a successful Prom for all to enjoy. Tickets will be sold during lunches to Juniors and Seniors at Eisenhower. Underclassmen or students from other schools must be signed in and accompanied by an upperclassman if attending. Tickets are 25 dollars apiece, or 40 dollars per couple.

Make sure to keep up with the latest updates regarding Prom and participate in Spirit Week and Prom related activities. The Squire would like to thank Paisley Lawson for her time, and her dedication to planning this event. The Squire can’t wait to see you there, be sure to stay safe, and have fun!
