Now that February has come, so has a holiday centered around love, Valentine’s Day. While this holiday is traditionally for couples to celebrate their love for each other, it has also developed into a newer tradition called Galentine’s Day, where girls celebrate their friendships. Planning an event like this can be an intimidating task, but, luckily for you, The Squire has compiled tips to plan a stress-free celebration.
First and foremost, successful event planning begins with organization. Figuring out attendance to determine how much food and refreshments will be needed is important to know prior to the event. Planning ahead of time allows the host to stay organized and enjoy themselves rather than worry about last-minute details. Having low stress sets a good mood for the party, as there’s no fun when guests feel tense.
The next step, which is always a factor in hosting, is the food. Junior, Paisley Lawson, shared with The Squire that some of her favorite snacks for events include, “Gummy bears, a sub platter, chocolate-covered pretzels, and fun drinks.” Easy to grab food and small treats allow guests to enjoy the food but not commit to sitting down for a full meal.
Decorations play a huge role in setting the tone for the event, so choosing a theme helps create a festive atmosphere. Lawson elaborated on this aspect by saying, “Having a fun reason to get together and choosing a theme with matching decorations makes it special.” She also added that for this celebration red and pink décor is a must-have for a perfect atmosphere.
To add on, planning activities keeps all the girls engaged throughout the event. Even simple games like bingo, trivia, and “minute to win it games,” create a fun time for all the girls to be together and have fun. Lawson agreed when she told The Squire, “Having activities planned while people are over helps keep everyone from getting bored.” Activities give everyone a chance to laugh, relax, and make memories that last longer than the event itself.
In the end, Galentine’s at the core is about spending quality time with friends and creating new memories. It offers an opportunity to reconnect with the people who matter most. Lawson described Galentine’s as, “An extra excuse to get together with your friends for a few hours.” She reminds us that the most important aspect of these events is simply being together. Whether it is thoroughly planned or not, this new tradition provides an opportunity to celebrate love across friendships during the Valentine’s season.
