Holiday Fun Happening at EMHS

With the holidays just around the corner, there are many events happening in Eisenhower Middle High School. Some of these events include the volleyball tournament, hallway decorating, and door decorating contests. In addition to those events, Student Council holds a holiday spirit week. These events help bring more joy and Christmas spirit into the weeks leading up to Christmas break.

Student Council holds the door decorating contest yearly, but this year Key Club assigned certain hallways to grade levels. When The Squire interviewed Mrs. Lobdell, she stated that she loves the decorating and both the door and hallway decorating brings out creativity across the school and helps turn it into a festive and cheerful atmosphere. This year’s winners for the door decorating were Mrs. Linkerhof for the most Christmas Spirit, Mr. Hayes for the funniest, and Mrs. Rouse for the most creative.

Not only does Student Council host the door decorating contest, but they also hold the holiday spirit week. When asked what the student body and teachers should expect for the week before Christmas break, Mrs. Lobdell shared, “Everyone can look forward to a fun and festive week filled with themed dress-up days, Christmas music in the halls, and a lot of activities to help us all get into the holiday spirit.”

Student Council chooses the days collaboratively; they look at what has been successful in past years and make sure the themes chosen are fun and easy to participate in. The days for this spirit week go as follows, Monday was “Knight Before Christmas” – PJ Day, Tuesday was Grinch vs. Santa – girls wear red and boys wear green, Wednesday was “What Not to Wear Wednesday” – Ugly Sweater Day. Thursday was “Knight of the New Year” – going out attire (fancy), and Friday was “Family Photos” – match with a group of friends.

With all the fun activities that happen at Eisenhower, one activity that many look forward to participating in is the volleyball tournament. Many people from the middle and high school participate in their corresponding tournaments. Mrs. Lobdell elaborated that she always enjoys the volleyball tournament, not only her, but many others enjoy this event.

When The Squire interviewed Mrs. Lobdell about the tournament she shared, “The volleyball tournament is put on to boost student and staff morale. It’s a great opportunity for students to enjoy a fun day before break and spread Christmas cheer.” She also said that the tournaments that are held help bring forth school spirit and friendly competition to the students, and that it is something she looks forward to every year.

Many may wonder about spectators during the volleyball tournaments. This question was asked in the interview with Mrs. Lobdell, and she answered that spectators are allowed and encouraged if they are accompanied by a teacher. They must remain respectful and follow guidelines that our school has, but it is strongly encouraged to cheer on classmates that are participating in the tournaments.

It’s a very busy time of year, the holidays just around the corner, and many events are happening in the Eisenhower Middle High School. Whether it’s participating in spirit week, helping decorate the hallways and doors, or even taking part in the volleyball tournaments, they can all bring more Christmas cheer into the students and staff. All of these events leading up to the holidays are a great way to bring a festive and more cheerful atmosphere to our school.
