Watching Out for February

Planning on spending 2016 watching awesome movies? February is the month to do it! With a perfect blend of comedies, action films, romance, and movies that are all of the above, cinemas everywhere will be filled many much anticipated movies that are great for everyone.

The Squire is here to give you an overview of the movies coming to theaters this month.  All of the following movies can be found on www.ibtimes.com, if you’d like to learn even more about them.

Hail, Caesar! is currently out in theaters for people’s entertainment. This Coen Brothers’ film tells the tale of how a 1950s movie studio fixer loses his star actor when he gets kidnapped by an anonymous group who call themselves, “The Future.” Demanding money in exchange for his return, head of production, Edward Mannix, races the clock to find his star, but faces many difficulties and goofy distractions along the way. With a talented cast of George Clooney, Scarlett Johansson, and Channing Tatum, this PG-13 rated, throw-back comedy is sure to tickle your funny bone.

Pride, Prejudice, and Zombies, based on the book written by Seth Grahame-Smith, is also in theaters now. Take a classic romance novel and throw zombies into the mix, and you get an epic action-packed horror film that is sure to please both 19th century and zombie lovers alike. With a zombie-killing cast of Lily James, Lena Headey, Matt Smith and Douglas Booth, this blood spilling PG-13 film will leave viewers hungry for more.

Marvel’s Deadpool is also currently in theaters and has die-hard fans cheering. Starring Ryan Reynolds as the Merc with a Mouth, Wade Wilson discovers he’s terminally ill with stage four cancer, but is given a second chance with promised powers beyond his imagination. After discovering his best girl (played by Morena Baccarin) has been taken, Wade must become the hero Deadpool and save her. Every Deadpool and Marvel fans alike will not want to miss out on this R-rated action-filled comedy that will have you howling with laughter and a thirst for more.

The dynamic duo of Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson are back in the hit sequel Zoolander 2. Former fashion models Derek Zoolander and Hansel are, “so in the past,” but soon become new agent recruits when famous celebrities are hunted down and assassinated by the mastermind Mugatu (played by the hilarious Will Ferrell). This PG-13 action comedy is full of gut-splitting humor and a funny plotline that will have you hooked.

Have you ever spent Valentine’s Day alone? Don’t worry, just go watch the movie How to Be Single. Rebel Wilson and Dakota Johnson star as the funny Robin and dorky Alice, and tell their story of surviving the concrete jungle when you’re single. This movie has a cute charm to it but also has a perfect mix of humor to go along with it. This rated R film will remind you that being single is not the end of the world, but can be fun.

Coming out on February 19 is The Great Race. This inspirational film tells the true story of Jesse Owens (Stephan James) who inspires to make a difference by becoming the first African American man to compete in the Olympics in Germany during the Nazi regime. A tale of heroic actions and true bravery, this PG13 film is a great film that will make you fall in love with history.

Also coming out on Feb. 12 is Embrace the Serpent. This PG-13 film was nominated Best Foreign Language Film of the Year by the Academy Awards. This impressive story tells the tale of an Amazonian shaman who spends over four decades to find a cure for his people with one plant. Facing many struggles along the way, this film tells a great story of hardship, faith, hope, trust, and most of all, the importance of dreams.

Making its way to theaters on Feb. 26 is the horror film The Witch. Taking place in the 1630s, this creepy story follows a small peaceful family whose lives become disrupted by dark magic…and a goat? Fans of the notorious Salem witch trials and lovers of the book The Crucible will enjoy this haunting tale and make you think twice about whom you can really trust. This film is rated PG-13.

Another horror film creeping into theatres on Feb. 26 is The Other Side of the Door. When a young boy meets his tragic end in an untimely accident, a grief-stricken mother is given a chance to say her final goodbyes. However, when she decides to break the number one rule of not opening the temple door, her and her family’s life suddenly becomes haunted with supernatural chaos. With spine-chilling twists and suspense that will have you at the edge of your seat, this PG-13 film will make you view life and death in different ways…but perhaps not the best of ways.

With a list of great films like these this February, who needs friends?  Whether you’re a fan of comedy, action, horror, romance, or all of the above, this month’s list of movies has something great for everyone.
