Prom is quickly approaching, and many girls enjoy getting bouquets and corsages, whether it’s from their significant other, or they make it themselves.
If one wants to make their own bouget, they can choose many spring flowers such as tulips, daffodils, violets, forget-me-nots, lilacs, and hyacinths. The Squire recently asked sophomore, Meredith Smyth what her favorite spring flowers are, and why? She responded, “Out of the many flowers, my favorite ones would be daisies because they represent happiness and I love that. Tulips because they aren’t around all year, and baby’s breath because truly, they can fit into any bouquet and not ruin it.”
Smyth went on to explain a good way to DIY your own bouquet by saying, “A few good stores to buy supplies and flowers would be Wegmans, Miss Milles Proper Bouquets, and Walmart, if you would rather buy a bouquet and reorganize it. For supplies, Walmart is also a top choice for everything you need, including brown wrap and ribbons.”
For the sharpest look, you should always correspond to your bouquet and corsages with your dress. For instance, a gray dress with pink flowers, or a black dress with red flowers. Besides that, you should look at different flower styles and bouquet care. A few flower styles are cascading, hand-tied, nosegay, and ikebana. When Smyth was later asked which flower style is her favorite, she replied, “Hand tied bouquets are my favorite. They tend to have bright colors and are the perfect size and shape”. Hand tied bouquets are usually used for Prom due to their modern and trendy alternative to corsages. This style is usually small and can be customized with various flowers, greenery, and ribbons. Flowers such as peonies, roses, tulips, and fragrant lilacs are typically used. The best way to take care of this type of bouquet is to trim the stems at a 45-degree angle and place them in a clean vase with water and flower food, replacing the water every 2-3 days to prevent bacterial growth, and it’s said to keep the bouquet away from direct sunlight, droughts, and fruit.
Whether you’re buying a premade bouquet or crafting your own, remember to consider your dress and personal style. With proper care, your floral arrangement will stay beautiful throughout your special event. Enjoy prom!
