Student Spotlight Shines on Layla Edwards

By: Kendra Danielson

In this issue of The Squire, the student spotlight shines on senior, Layla Edwards. Layla is an active participant in the Eisenhower community. She plays on the Varsity Girls Volleyball team, participates in SADD, is the Class Secretary, and is this year’s Student Council President.

Many people would describe Layla as caring, ambitious, energetic, and fun-loving. In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with friends, coffee dates, cooking/baking, hiking, and finding fun festivals to go to with her boyfriend. The Squire has taken the time to ask Layla a few questions about herself in hopes of getting to know her better:

The Squire: What are your future plans after high school?

Layla Edwards: My plans include graduating college with a degree in early childhood education and start teaching somewhere around second grade. I plan to marry my high school sweetheart, eventually move to Arizona, have a couple of cats and kids, and grow old knowing I lived my life to the fullest.

TS: What has been the most difficult or stressful part of senior year so far?

LE: I think the most difficult thing so far is just getting to wrap my head around that we seniors only have 10 months until our move in day for college. Another thing is the stress of applying to college, FASFA, grades, transcripts, scholarships, and many other things that need done.

TS: What are some of your favorite memories here at Eisenhower?

LE: My favorite memories include decorating for Homecoming, Halloween in the Eco Lab, cheerleading, pep assemblies, Mrs. Lobdell, Free Cook Friday, Mr. EHS, “scums,” and the EHS talent show.

TS: What advice would you give to underclassmen?

LE: 1. Don’t procrastinate everything. 2. Be involved, it makes high school more exciting! 3. Sweatpants and hoodies are the go-to fit. 4. Don’t drink the water. 5. Don’t let other people’s opinion affect you.

TS: As Student Council president, how has being apart of this club impacted you and your high school experience?

LE: Being in student council the last four years has impacted my high school life a lot. I joined my freshmen year, my junior year I was the secretary, and now, senior year, I am President. Student Council has gotten me so involved in so many different things and given me many opportunities like decorating, meeting with county representatives, raising student morale, scholarships, and so much more.

TS: Where do you see yourself in five years?

LE: In five years, I see myself right out of college with my degree, starting a teaching job close to home to save up money. I’ll have an apartment with Gavin and my two cats, and hopefully on the right track to save money to eventually move to Arizona down the road.

TS: What are you looking forward to most this year?

LE: Spending time with the people I’ll miss and crossing the stage on June 5.

TS: Is there any teacher or other role model in your life that has positively impacted your high school experience as a whole, and if so, how?

LE: Yes, Miss Jeanette Walter. Miss Walter is my biggest inspiration to teaching, watching how she cares for each kid like they are her own makes my heart happy and I hope to be like that. I want to thank her for everything in the past twelve years. I don’t think high school would have been the same without her. Eisenhower wouldn’t be the same without her. I love you Miss Walter!

The Squire would like to thank Layla for taking the time to let us get to know her and her life aspirations. We wish you the best of luck with your senior year and your future endeavors!
