Spirit Week Brightens Eisenhower

Every year during the week of Homecoming, Student Council plans many festivities to get students amped up for the football game and dance, including a spirit week and pep assembly. This year the dance was Saturday, October 11, themed “The Gatsby Gala,” and the spirit week took place from Monday, October 6, until Friday, October 10, with the pep assembly taking place on Friday. The spirit week was very successful, with many students participating in each of the days.

Monday was USA day, where students showed out in their best red, white, and blue. The patriotic themed day was very successful to begin the week.

The following day was Blue Collar vs White Collar Day. Some students wore blue-collar outfits, which meant an outfit of a manual laboring worker. On the other hand, students who chose to dress in white-collar wore formal office worker outfits.

White-Lie-Wednesday featured students that wore plain white t-shirts with a blatant lie on it. Some examples of a white lie included, “I can spel” or “I am blonde.” Student Council officer Paisley Lawson told The Squire, “I think white lie will be the most successful day, I’ve heard a lot of talk of students eager to make their shirts and coming up with tons of ideas early.”

Thursday showcased Adam Sandler day, which displayed a very laid-back style of apparel. Students wore oversized T-shirts and shorts, showcasing a very comfy aesthetic. Some went even further with accessories and displayed baseball caps and jerseys.

Blue and gold-filled Eisenhower on Friday. Homecoming spirit week always ends with the blue and gold day for students to come together to show school spirit. The pep assembly took place shortly after sixth period and began with the entirety of the middle-senior high school, including Youngsville Middle School.

The assembly began with the band playing music as all the students entered. The entirety of the varsity football team came out and got the student body hyped for the big game. Then the homecoming court did their entrances which led to the first game where three separate heats of couples rolled each other up and down the gym on a mat stacked on rolling chairs. The winners of each heat competed in a final heat where Shawn Miller and Laney Belcher won.

Following that game, Mr. Black recognized fall sport athletes by announcing the sport and having them stand for recognition. Then, the senior court competed against staff members in a finish the lyrics game, where in a tiebreaker the teachers won thanks to Mrs. Rouse.

The final game was dodgeball which had fall sport athletes competing against one another. The first game was junior high athletes, then the varsity athletes competed in the second game. Both games were tight and competitive, so neither game finished.

To close out the assembly, the cheer team did their signature “Knight Rumble” cheer having the middle school side compete with the high school side to see who was the loudest. Mr. Cradduck deemed the high school the winner.

After the week was over, it was safe to say that Student Council did a phenomenal job bringing together the student body. Across the school, students created many memories during a great Homecoming week. Lawson further shared how she wanted the week to be remembered, “I want students to remember homecoming as fun and exciting. With our schools coming together, I hope for good memories with new and old friends.” With this year’s Homecoming wrapping up, be sure to participate in further spirit weeks and assemblies throughout the school year.
