Preparing for Prom

By: Kendra Danielson

On May 10, Eisenhower’s Prom is being held at Ivory Acres in Frewsburg, New York. The event will run from 7 to 10 pm, and the night will be filled with snacks, an assorted drink bar, pictures, dancing, and fun.

If you plan on attending, tickets will be sold during lunches B and C prior to the dance by Prom Committee members, and will cost $25 per person and $45 per couple. Voting for Prom court will take place the week of Prom, and voting for king and queen will only be available at the dance, during which winners will be announced and crowned near the end of the event.

This year’s theme is a combination between Enchanted Forest and Enchanted Garden, therefore being named Enchanted Evening. There wasn’t much discussion about what this year’s theme would be, as the Prom Committee instantly agreed upon an enchanted theme. The Squire interviewed Prom Committee member Layla Edwards and asked what the theme will entail, and she shared, “It shows a magical atmosphere, with intricate details like vines, flowers, candles, and so many other nature inspired elements.” The Prom Committee has worked hard to ensure that the venue will be decorated fittingly and will have corresponding refreshments.

Featured refreshments will include a variety of syrups, such as coconut, raspberry, peach, strawberry, and dragon fruit, to make fun fruity drinks with your own combinations of flavors. As for other drink options, Shirley Temples and bottled water will be available. Various little snacks as well as an outdoor s’mores bar (weather permitting) will be included as part of guest refreshments.

Ivory Acres is a well-known wedding venue in the Frewsburg area that was a hit for last year’s prom, easily persuading the Prom Committee to book it for a second year in a row. The venue is located inside an antique barn with high ceilings, large doors, and tons of open space. Indoor and outdoor decorations will be arranged so guests can get pictures while at Prom, with a hired photographer and a designated photo booth.

The day of prom is filled with many preparations, especially for girls with common traditions of getting hair and makeup done, making bouquets or corsages, and taking lots of pictures. Many couples or groups celebrate by getting group pictures beforehand and finding a nice restaurant to eat at together. As for Prom Committee, they will be making final preparations as well, Edwards commented on a few last-minute touches, “We will still have to get all of the munchies set out and of course prepare the drink and s’mores bar.”

Make sure to plan according to this year’s prom schedule and stay updated for more information as it gets closer. The Squire would like to thank Edwards for answering a few questions and looks forward to seeing you there; remember to be safe and have fun!
