Hoco Football Game in Full Swing

By: Kris Bunk

On September 22, your Eisenhower Knights football team took on the Lakeview Sailors for the annual homecoming game at the Pasture of Pain. Both teams were loaded with talent and were ready to get after it at 7:00. The Pasture was packed with people cheering their Knights on.

The Knights won the coin toss and elected to receive. It was Lakeview, though, drawing first blood in the game, as the Lakeview receiver hauled in a five-yard pass in the endzone. The two point conversionwas no good, so they climbed up six to zero over the Knights.

At the start of the second quarter, the Knights took over on a turnover. While on the drive, Shawn Pascuzzi hit a wide-open Kris Bunk in the end zone for a 26-yard score. Kellogg’s PAT (Point After Touchdown) was good. The Knights led at that point seven to six.

Lakeview would go down and score three more times. Pascuzzi responded, though, going down and hitting Ryan Chambers for a 49-yard touchdown pass. Lakeview then took a deep shot of their own, making it 48-14.

Pascuzzi and Lindell both ran into the endzone for scores, making the final score 48-28 and resulting in Eisenhower being 3-2 on the year and Lakeview 5-0.

The Squire sat down with quarterback Shawn Pascuzzi for a postgame interview. He reflected, “The outcome wasn’t what we hoped for…the team showed improvement, though, over a tough opponent and didn’t give up.” When asked what was working for the team, Pascuzzi mentioned, “Our offensive pass game and our option game was working well for us….Our defense just couldn’t stop their long passes.”

Pascuzzi also mentioned, “There were some changes made upfront at halftime that seemed to work out in the offensive end.” Pascuzzi left us with a final thought on the game, “I was happy how the team played…I was proud of the team and how they didn’t give up and hang their heads and kept trying to spark a comeback….We can take losses like this and build from it. A tough game like this where we can do the stuff we want to do shows that we can compete and get better.” The Squire thanks Shawn for his time to speak his thoughts with us.
