Quests 2018-2019

By: Delaney Chase

Recently, our EHS Journalism students traveled to St. Bonaventure for their annual Communications Day. This field trip gave them the opportunity to explore different types of Journalism. Many different workshops were offered for groups to attend, including photography, social media, marketing/public relations, live broadcasting, writing, digital journalism, and advertising.

After a welcome from the College of Communications, the students had the opportunity to take the workshops that most interested them. Digital journalism was one of the favorites, where students looked at an online news site run by Bonaventure students. They were also able to write their own news story that was then posted on the website. Digital journalism was especially useful for our Squire staff, as the staff is always working to make our online newspaper the best it can be.

Another favorite workshop was the live broadcast, which allowed students the opportunity to witness the production, filming, and streaming of SBU-TV’s news broadcast.  The experience helped the W-IKE news crew gain some new ideas and knowledge to improve our own broadcasts at Eisenhower.

After a delicious lunch in the SBU student cafeteria, EHS finished off their trip by touring campus and enjoying the university’s beautiful architecture. The journalism students hope to return to Bonaventure for next year’s Communications Day.
