A statistic from statista.com claims that “In the fourth quarter of 2018, Netflix had over 148 million streaming subscribers worldwide.” It’s one of the biggest up-and-coming companies in the past ten years. As a result, shows that used to thrive on regular cable networks are being discovered very differently now. For example, anyone who’s heard their friends or family suggest the new-to-Netflix show “You” about a psychotic stalker named Joe who becomes obsessed with a young woman that visits his bookstore, may be surprised to hear the show actually made its debut last fall on Lifetime. Once Netflix obtained rights and started streaming the series the day after Christmas, it gained mass popularity from the millions of twitter-using, binge-watching users subscribed to Netflix. This has been the case for lots of the shows and movies being given a second chance by Netflix, and needless to say, streaming services like Netflix have become the newest generation’s TV.
