Boys’ winter sports are in full effect now with many of them having only a few games or matches left before the post-season. Eisenhower boys’ athletes will need all the support that they can get, with the most difficult part of the season coming up. The Knights will be practicing hard and giving everything they have to have a good playoff run. Both boys’ sports teams are having phenomenal seasons, and a big part of the success is the increase in athletes resulting from the consolidation of the schools.
Boys wrestling is having an amazing season, with their only two dual loses coming to the Corry Beavers and the Hickory Hornets. The Knights recently made the playoffs for the team duals, but sadly ended up losing to the Hornets. The wrestling team has had their best season since the 2019-2020 season. The team has many strong and very talented wrestlers, one being Senior, Bryceton Wilkins, who has placed at every tournament the Knights have wrestled in. Bryceton answered some questions from The Squire about the Knights wrestling team, sharing that, “One big strength that we have as a team is just the overall success of the team from being the team in last place to the second-best team.” The wrestling team will be going to the individual tournament for postseason in the near future and will be hoping to take some kids into the district and regional rounds of postseason.
Boys’ basketball is making a run right now, winning their last several games. With the combination of Youngsville and Eisenhower, the basketball team has gained many strong players, as well as many freshmen who have stepped up and played a pivotal role in the games, helping the team to a winning season. Austin Hanson is a key player on the team, who recently scored his 1,000 points in just his junior season. Austin spoke with The Squire about the atmosphere of the games, saying, “The atmosphere has been really good with the student section being full of kids every game and many of the athletes are stepping up and playing their role in the team”.
Make sure to wish all of the Knights boys’ athletes’ good luck when you see them and come and support at the remaining home sporting events. Additionally, stay tuned to W-IKE news for more winter sports updates.
