From the soccer and football field, to the wrestling mat and the track, senior Bryceton Wilkins is a giant amongst men. This winter, The Squire chose Wilkins for our student spotlight because of his dedication as a student and an athlete. As a multisport athlete, Wilkins still maintains high grades in his difficult courseload and is involved in multiple clubs. A few of the clubs he is a member of are Key Club, National Honor Society, and Student Council. The Squire sat down with Wilkins to help our readers get to know him a bit better.
The Squire: What were your younger years like?
Bryceton Wilkins: Because of the pandemic, I spent a lot of my time inside playing video games like Fortnite and Minecraft, but before that I did a lot of sports growing up. Doing a bunch of different sports really shaped me and who I am today.
TS: You play a multitude of sports. Which is your favorite and why?
BW: I would have to say my favorite is soccer because of how long I’ve been doing it and just the confidence I carry when I play it.
TS: What are some of your favorite things to do outside of school?
BW: I like fishing, and I like hiking. I really want to get into hiking more, but honestly, I’m interested in a lot of things; however, I don’t have a lot of time to pursue them.
TS: What are your future plans?
BW: I want to go into something outdoorsy; my current plan would be to be an environmental scientist or something involving environmental science. I honestly just want to be outdoors for my job. I would also want to leave Warren County.
TS: What is your advice to underclassmen?
BW: If you don’t love what you do, don’t do it.
TS: What is your favorite school memory?
BW: Definitely the Christmas volleyball tournament. I just have so many good memories from it. Every year it’s just so much fun. This year coming up we have a super team so be ready. Track 4×4 my junior year was really fun. We made it to districts, and it really wasn’t competitive.
TS: What is your biggest accomplishment in sports?
BW: I have two in mind. I made all region kicker this year, which was great because I put in a lot of hard work and I honestly was really hard on myself and receiving that accolade was honestly just a pat on the back and really showed me that I was a decent kicker. Also, being captain of the soccer team junior and senior year. It’s just a good representation of all of my hard work.
TS: What is something not a lot of people know about you?
BW: I know a bunch of random facts. I don’t know why but I enjoy learning them.
TS: Could you give us one?
BW: New Zealand has the highest population of flightless birds.
Wilkins is an impressive athlete, friend, and student. The Squire would like to thank him for his helpfulness and insightful answers. We wish Bryceton the best of luck with future endeavors and continuation of his athletics as well as his academics.
