As you may have heard, another video game movie adaptation has made its way to theatres. The movie is called A Minecraft Movie, released April 4, 2025. Many Minecraft fans went to see this highly hyped movie, but it received many negative criticisms. Most comments ranged from remarks on poor acting to bad writing. A complaint unrelated to the quality of the movie was that many fans attending the movie were loud and obnoxious and were a nuisance to young children and families alike.
The reason to why so many kids and young adults were being obnoxious was because of the inclusion of certain quotes such as “Chicken Jockey!” and “I Am Steve”. When the onscreen actors said these phrases, fans went crazy. Some groups went as far as to throwing popcorn and getting escorted out of the theatre.
The Squire sat down with Isaiah Reagle, EMHS Sophomore, to see what his take on the much anticipated and highly debated movie is. The Squire asked Isaiah to give the movie a rating, and he enthusiastically described the movie as, “10/10. It’s perfect in every aspect and achieved everything a film should”. He rates it very highly and likes the movie a lot. We also asked if he had a favorite scene, and he explained, “My favorite scene isn’t something simple like chicken jockey, although that is very iconic. No, no, my favorite scene is the ending, where they all make it back to the real world, including Steve, It shows that they grew as people, they started a band, they got the arcade up and running, the kid got a functioning jet pack, and they all lived happily ever after”. Reagle has a lot to say about his favorite scene, but he emphasizes how much he does not care for the popular aspects, but the thing that impacts him personally the most.
Since many kids were loud during the movie, we decided to ask if he was loud or quiet during the movie when the iconic scenes played, and he responded with, “I went two times, once with my brother, and once with friends. With my brother, I was quiet, but, with my friends, I was loud because I couldn’t contain my excitement.”
Personally, I rate the movie 7/10 because the acting and quality could be better, but the references made everlasting memories for many around the world. So go check out the movie for yourself to see what the hype is all about!
