The Spotlight Shines on Mr. Markiewicz

By: Joseph Gigliotti

With the departure of many beloved teachers and principals from the previous school year, students and staff have seen many new faces around the school this year, including our new principal, Mr. Jason Markiewicz. Markiewicz has been working in the district for multiple years, including working at Youngsville High School, but he hasn’t worked at Eisenhower until this school year.

For all of us to get to know him a little bit better, The Squire  chose Mr. Markiewicz for the Spring Issue of the “Teacher Spotlight” and asked him some questions:

The Squire: What inspired you to become a principal?

Mr. Markiewicz: I had a desire to affect the school from a different perspective, aside from my classroom.

TS: How do you define success for your school?

MM: To make the school a success, there must be a positive overall school climate, which is determined by teachers, students and parents.

TS: What are some of the biggest challenges facing your school this year?

     MM: Boys’ bathrooms… that’s it.

TS: How do you support your teachers and staff in their roles?

MM: I try to always have an open-door policy of being able to discuss whatever, whenever.

TS: What are your goals for the future of the school?

MM: We’re working to ensure a smooth transition next year as we welcome the Youngsville 9 -12 students.

TS: What advice would you give to students to help them succeed academically and personally?

MM: Continue to work every day to be better. We are all works in progress and somedays there will be setbacks. Make sure you take advantage of support systems and do not be too proud to ask for help.

Markiewicz has also helped massively with Youngsville High School soon closing by helping them make a smooth transition into Eisenhower. He organized an open house here at Eisenhower to show the courses and clubs offered, as well as helping prospective students feel more comfortable. The Squire covered the open house in an article for our Fall Issue titled “Fight Like a Knight, Soar like an Eagle.”

The Squire would like to thank Mr. Markiewicz for taking the time to answer these questions so that we can get to know him a little better. Make sure to stop by his office and say “Hi” or chat with him in the hallway to get to know him better.
