Prom is a very important time during the end of the school year, when everyone talks about what they are wearing, how they are doing their hair, where they’ll get their nails done, and all those fun things that make prom, prom. The Squire interviewed senior Emily Grosch for her insight on this prom season.
This year 2025’s most worn dress style for prom is a mermaid style, which is a very form fitted gown that gets flowy around the knee area. Many other popular styles for this year include ruffled dresses, sparkles/glitter, strapless, and off the shoulder dresses. This year’s dresses are all about making a statement. The Squire asked Grosch about what she has seen this year, and she stated, “I think flowery dresses are becoming more popular, but, here at Eisenhower, I think most have tight sparkly dresses.” Bold colors like electric blue, deep emerald, metallics, and even some neon colors are in. Another huge comeback this prom season is vintage glamour, featuring details like corset tops, feather detailing, velvet textures, and dramatic slits, which has become a huge part of this year’s prom styles.
Guys are embracing many new styles this year, as well. Last year many guys wore a black or grey colored suit with a tie that would match their dates’ dress color, but this year they have expanded their options and now wear a wide variety. Things like bright colors or even fun suits with photos printed on them could make an appearance at prom.
For the girls, makeup is also an important part of the prom look. Everyone is trying to make a big impression with makeup and hair, so expect to see things like dewy skin, glossy lips, rhinestone accents, and holographic highlights. There are also many people that are doing very light makeup to make them look more natural, which is just as gorgeous.
Many hairstyles this prom season are shying away from tight updos and going for more soft waves, slick ponies, and even colorful extensions. The soft waves are formed with a large, barreled curling iron and are gently brushed out for movement. Now the high pony offers a very modern, red-carpet vibe, while still showcasing the dress, plus it is perfect for showing off the jewelry worn with the dress.
Now the part everyone dreads, paying for everything. Buying a prom dress can range from one hundred to seven hundred dollars, some even exceeding a thousand dollars. The Squire asked Grosch what she thought about the wide range of dress prices she saw when shopping. She explained that she found the prices to be, “Way too overpriced for some; some were two-thousand dollars and over.” In addition to the price of the dress, there are many other factors that come into play as well, like the price of getting your hair and nails done, providing transportation, and purchasing tickets. The average teen spends around six hundred to nine hundred dollars on covering these expenses, according to a survey and tips for prom provided by Google.
With all of that said, the prom experience is different for everyone, and you can do it however you want. The Squire would like to thank Emily Grosch for answering our questions and for more information about prom, go check out more articles at www.squirenews.com.
