Winter Sports Take Final Bows

As winter sports wrap up, it’s time for playoffs. This year, the Eisenhower winter athletic programs have been very successful, whether they are on the court or on the mat. This winter, both girls and boys basketball have had winning records and made playoffs. Many wrestlers have also found success during the season and progressed to the next round.

Boys basketball ended their year with a 12-8 record and got the seed at the fifth spot in the 2025 playoffs. Austin Hanson leads the team, with an average of 20 points per game. Hanson also leads the team in assists, with 5.4. Additionally, Gavin Lindemuth leads the team in rebounds with seven per game. The Squire interviewed captain, Austin Hanson, and asked what some of the things the team have been doing to prepare for the playoffs. Hanson stated that they are working harder in practice and taking some time off of the court to watch films and make game plans. Eisenhower faced new competition as the districts were adjusted and added new teams and removed games against teams that had become rivals over the years. The team grew over the course of the season and filled holes left by last season’s seniors. With the success of the basketball at Eisenhower, the girls have not disappointed in their season.

Girls basketball ended the season with a 16-6 record being seeded in the number five spot and received a first-round bye. Clara Steinberg leads the team with 23.4 points per game. Steinburg also leads the team in assists per game, with 4.6. Tracey Jakubczak leads the team in rebounds per game with seven. The Squire interviewed captain Lainey Font. When Font was asked what she would want to change for post season, she stated, “Somethings we need to change for the playoffs is to start playing more aggressive on defense.” She elaborated that one thing that will make the playoffs difficult is the lack of playoff experience on the team this year, but the group is determined to play their hardest.

The wrestling team struggled record-wise, yet multiple athletes thrived individually throughout the season. Ryan Chambers, Rever Caudill, Bryceton Wilkins, and Shawn Miller made districts, with Caudill progressing to regionals. Senior Griffin Williams commented on his final high school wrestling season saying, “It was great, the atmosphere was great… all the memories and teammates help make it all a lot better.” Individual strengths shined this season on the wrestling mat.

The winter sport season has held wire-to-wire games, thrilling matches, and great memories for both fans and players. As winter turns to spring, fans and athletes will turn towards track, baseball, and softball. Stay tuned!
