The Squire Promotes Eisenhower Clubs

By: Ariel Ludwick

In light of the upcoming school merger, The Squire decided to promote the clubs at Eisenhower. As of the 2024-25 school year, Eisenhower currently has more than twelve clubs to participate in. Involved students, Carly Russell and Callan Gigliotti, were interviewed about their experiences so that readers can learn more about our club offerings.

Gigliotti is the senior class president, Student Council president, and National Honor Society vice president, while Russell is a yearbook co-editor and business editor, and participates in Academic Bowl, Battle of the Books, Captain’s Council, Concert Band vice president, Jazz Band, Choir, and Fantasia.

Russell said her favorite club is Yearbook because, “…you’re able to meet new people from any grade, but can also help create a memorable yearbook for our student body. You also get to interact with many people from other clubs when you go to get photos, and work with other people you wouldn’t have met otherwise.” Gigliotti’s favorite club is Student Council because, “We do so many fun activities throughout the year, and I love planning each event and watching it come together. We are always doing something, and I love how everyone contributes and brings something new to the table.”

Gigliotti, when asked what her favorite aspect of school clubs is, explained, “My favorite thing about clubs is it allows me to talk to people that I wouldn’t ordinarily have conversations with. I also love that as a group we learn to work together and create bonds through something so simple as a club.” Russell agreed, saying clubs are opportunities to get to know people one might not have spoken to before.

Clubs, and anything else a person could be involved in, can influence a students’ experience in high school. Russell and Gigliotti both said that all the clubs they’ve been involved in have affected them positively, allowing them to have somewhere they can belong, make friends, and learn how to be a leader and work with others.

Russell says that clubs this year, compared to previous years, have grown as a whole in terms of involvement and numbers. Examples would include the increasing number of people participating in band and the new clubs that started just this year, such as Captains’ Council and e-Sports. Gigliotti states that clubs mostly do their own unique thing, but looking at recent events, they have collaborated, like during Kindness Week, in which Student Council and SADD contributed.

Gigliotti and Russell gave their own pieces of advice for Youngsville students looking to join clubs at Eisenhower next year. She said they should be willing to try any clubs that seem of interest to them. There’s no backlash for trying something new, and they might find a club they could become extremely passionate about. Gigliotti said she highly recommends getting involved in clubs. They allow one to meet new people, get involved in the community, and boost applications and resumes. They also are fun and offer many possibilities, whether being involved in one or multiple. We look forward to having many more students join in EMHS clubs next year.
