Kindness Week Elevates Positivity

As the year proceeds, many important events around Eisenhower continue to take place. The week of Valentine’s Day is known as Kindness Week, which is reminds students and staff of the importance of being a light in our community. Kindness week, which occurred February 10 through 14 this year, brings many things, like joy and happiness, and, for our school, a spirit week full of positivity.

Kindness Week is run by Mrs. Lobdell and her many dedicated members of Student Council. The Squire interviewed Student Council president, Callan Gigliotti, and she shared, “To prepare for Kindness Week we start thinking a few months in advance. First, we start with spirit week, where we just try to come up with fun themes for everyone. Then, we plan the events like the kindness café.”

The week began with “Love to dress comfy – kindness doesn’t care what you wear” where all the students participated in wearing pajamas with the daily challenge of signing the kindness pledge in the lobby. The pledge went very well, with many students throughout the entire building signing it.

On Tuesday, the student body showed their support for the school by wearing their blue and gold on a day named “Show your love for EHS.” The daily kindness challenge was to compliment a friend or staff member by filling out the cup of kindness held during lunch. The cup of kindness was a sweet way to write down a reminder towards a friend of the gratitude for them and the qualities that are admired.

The center of the week was fulfilled by “The perfect pair – twin day” where students across all grade levels replicated outfits with a friend. Also taking place was the decorated kindness cart for the staff to remind them how grateful we are for their dedication to educate the students. The cart was filled with many treats for each teacher and faculty member in the building. The challenge of the day was to spread kindness outward by creating a virtual valentine to send to a child at St Jude’s Children’s hospital.

Thursday was the biggest day of the spirit week with the kindness café taking place, while students across the school wore pink and red. Student Council also handed out red and pink heart glasses and beaded necklaces to spread spirit. The kindness café took place during the last period of the day and recognized three students from each grade for their unwaveringly kind attitude. The café featured games, music, snacks, and drinks for the students to enjoy.

Friday was Valentines Day, but also a makeup day for the snow day, so no special spirit wear was planned. The challenge to end the week was to try and be extra kind to everyone inside and outside of school.

Kindness Week is very important to the students and faculty around the school. It gives our school a chance to highlight why it’s important to always be kind while bringing the school together. Gigliotti mentioned, “With some kindness in the air and smiles on everyone’s face, Eisenhower is transformed into an atmosphere full of positivity.” Even though Kindness Week is over, be sure to remember the importance of spreading positivity to the people around you.
