Grammys Take the Internet by Storm

The Grammys have come and gone for 2025. In case you missed it, The Squire has tons of fun facts and information on what went down.

The 2025 Grammy awards kicked off at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on February 2. The show opened with a special performance of “I Love LA” by popular artists including, Dawes, John Legend, Brad Paisley, Sheryl Crow, Brittany Howard, and St. Vincent. This song was a tribute to people and homes lost in the Los Angeles wildfires and was a great addition this year, as many of those in attendance were impacted by the fires.

One of the most significant winners of 2025 was Kendrick Lamar, who was awarded five Grammys. Surprisingly, this is his second time winning five Grammys in one year. In 2016, Kendrick was awarded five different Grammys, which is a very impressive feat. What makes 2025 more significant is that every single Grammy he won was for the song “Not Like Us,” which was a diss track on popular Canadian rapper, Drake.  “Not Like Us” won the awards for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance and Best Music Video.

While many supporters agree with the award decisions, there were a few controversial awards that some people thought were undeserved. For example, Beyoncé’s album Cowboy Carter won both Country Album of the Year and Album of the Year. This award was highly debated, and many critics took issue with the choice. Some felt that singer Billie Eilish’s album Hit Me Hard and Soft deserved the album of the year instead. This belief stems from how hard she worked to help produce it and how much emotion was put into the songs. Avid music listener, Rosalie Rondeau, agrees, sharing with The Squire that she feels “there are many better albums” than Beyonce’s Cowboy Carter.

Additionally, in the world of fashion, there were some very noteworthy choices. One of the outfits that was loved by fans and fashion freaks was Charli XCX’s custom, gray Jean Paul Gaultier gown, which was designed by Ludovic de Saint Sernin. In a more unique style choice, Jaden Smith wore a custom-made black castle headpiece by Hungarian designer, Dora Abodi. The headpiece was inspired by Transylvanian history and vampire legends. There were many iconic and one-of-a-kind outfits shown off.
