Fight Like a Knight, Soar like an Eagle

Every school faces challenges at one time or another, but as Youngsville High School goes through this tough transition to combine with Eisenhower and Warren High, both schools are trying to make it as easy as possible to help them through it.

EHS has done several things to try and help the students and faculty of Youngsville feel as welcomed as possible while they will start classes here at the beginning of next school year. Also, EHS put on a very successful open house on the night of February 5, to show the students and parents of YHS what Eisenhower has to offer them. For students who choose to enroll into our school, they will have many opportunities for classes, clubs, sports, and any other extracurricular activities.

The Squire interviewed the former principal of Youngsville and the current principal of Eisenhower, Mr. Jason Markiewicz. Markiewicz spoke about many things that EHS has done to welcome Youngsville, but the most spoken of was the open house. He stated, “Eisenhower put on a very successful open house on short notice. All clubs, teams, and classes were represented and there were a lot of positive comments made about the reception we gave YHS families.” Markiewicz also stated, “I believe that the things we are doing are getting good reports. The student leadership groups at both schools have been working on ideas to blend some of the events that are unique to each school. They are coming up with some great ideas! Stay Tuned!”  Markiewicz is very confident in the school’s efforts to help introduce the students and faculty of YHS to the loving community of EMHS.

As many students and faculty here at EMHS know, Markiewicz was the former principal at Youngsville High School. The Squire questioned Markiewicz about his former position at YHS and how it has impacted him and his experiences at both high schools. Markiewicz said, “I see a lot of similarities in the student body at both schools. There is tremendous pride in both, not just for their sports, but for what the schools represent for the past generations and alumni. I have been welcomed into both communities from students and parents alike. I will always be grateful for the time I spent at Youngsville; it played a big part in how I principal.”

As this school year moves into the second semester, many efforts have already been made to communicate and answer and questions and concerns with various posters, flyers, and social media. The students and staff at Eisenhower are doing their best to help the Youngsville community feel as comfortable as possible with the upcoming changes. The Squire would like to thank Mr. Markiewicz for answering our questions. To learn more about the consolidation read Squire staff member Matthew Rutkowski’s article on the subject.
