As holiday cheer spreads through Eisenhower Middle High School, so do the holiday activities. Eisenhower Student Council prepared a variety of events for the students to participate in as a fun reward for Christmas break.
One of the many fun holiday activities that was planned was a Christmas themed spirit week. Monday was Candy Cane Day, which consisted of students wearing red and white. On Tuesday, Student Council held Family Photo Day. Family Photo Day involved students coordinating outfits with a group of their friends. All the best ugly sweaters were on display on What Not to Wear Wednesday. On Thursday, students wore their favorite Christmas flannels for Channel your Flannel Day. Last but not least, everyone was cozy on Friday. Students wore their Christmas pajamas for Polar Express Day. Each day had its own holiday flair, as students and staff alike showed their school and Christmas spirit.
Student Council President, Callan Gigliotti, has been able to lead Student Council through their events for the past two years. The Squire asked her about what goes into planning a spirit week. Gigliotti responded, “We all brainstorm ideas and come together as a group and vote. We have to think about how easy the theme will be and how many students will participate.”
At the end of the week Student Council planned a middle and high school volleyball tournament for the last day before break. Middle school competed in the morning, and high school competed in the afternoon. The middle school tournament consisted of twelve teams, eleven student teams and one team of teachers. The finalist of the middle school championship moved onto the high school tournament. The high school tournament had ten teams, seven of which are high school students, one is a teacher team, and two are middle school students. In the afternoon, the students had a chance to stop into the gym to enjoy watching the championship game.
Gigliotti also commented on how they have better prepared for this year’s holiday events. Gigliotti stated, “Since this is the second time we are doing the volleyball tournament, the process went a lot smoother…The fine tuning to improve the event wasn’t difficult. We all work well together, so challenges rarely arise.”
This week Student Council also crowned the winner of the Holiday Door Decorating Contest. There were four categories the doors were judged on; most creative, most Christmas spirit, funniest, and the overall winner. Mrs. McGraw won most creative, Mrs. Lobdell’s had the most Christmas spirit, and Mrs. Sienicki was voted the funniest. The overall winner of the 2024 door decorating contest was Mr. Leonhardt with a play on a popular meme featuring the Grinch.
As the year is coming to an end everyone should thank Student Council for all the memorable events in 2024. We can’t wait to see what they have planned for 2025.
