Glowing Through Homecoming

By: Avalynne Russell

Planned by Student Council, this year’s Light Up the Knight Homecoming dance was surely one for the books. Complete with blacklights, neon, and students dressed to the nines, The Squire can surely say that student council did an amazing job with planning and decorating. To get some more insight, The Squire interviewed freshman Payton Elms for her thoughts on her first ever Homecoming Dance.

Before the festivities could begin, Student Council worked all day on the Friday before the dance to make sure that the decorations and playlist were absolutely perfect. The day of the dance, many students went to Bent Run and Cresent Park to take pictures as a memory of the night. Since many had time left over afterward, students went to various places in the Warren County and Lakewood area to get dinner with their date and best friends.

Upon their arrival at the dance, students were handed a foam glowstick by our Vice Principal, Mrs. Gulnac, to start the night off right. They then entered a dark tunnel into the cafeteria, which was decorated with all kinds of neon, blacklights, and, of course, Eisenhower’s signature box, with Elms’ favorite of the evening’s decorations being the neon checkered wall behind the DJ equipment owned by Student Council.

As the night went on, students danced their hearts out with their classmates to all of their favorite songs. Elms shared, “my favorite song at Hoco was definitely ‘Fe!n’.” Halfway through the night, senior Caroline Smyth announced the 2024 Homecoming Court to the students at the dance, along with Queen Emily Grosch and King Ryan Chambers. While all of this was going on, students could find glowsticks and neon markers to write on each other and enhance the glow of the night, with Elms stating, “I liked that we could draw on ourselves and each other with the markers.”

When the night finally came to a close, much like this article, many students made their way over to Sheetz for a post-dance snack. The Squire wants to thank Elms for sharing her experience at the dance, and we hope that everyone had a great time at Hoco 2024!
