Mrs. Gulnac Connects with EMHS

As the 2024-2025 school year is now under way, students and staff alike are seeing many new faces around the building, including that of our new Assistant Principal, Mrs. Danielle Gulnac. She has been working in the district for multiple years in many different positions, but she has not yet worked here at Eisenhower. For all of us to get to know her a little bit better, The Squire had a conversation with Mrs. Gulnac.

Upon her few years with the district, Mrs. Gulnac tutored students at the WCCC (Warren County Career Center) before moving to WAHS the next year to teach mathematics. Many of her previous students have expressed their fondness of her and her class, explaining that she was a very good teacher and that she always had a welcoming classroom environment. Four years later, she transitioned to another position saying, “… then I spent four years in Special Education at WAHS.” She shared, “When I made the move from regular education to special education and started case managing students, I realized that I felt I had been missing out on a bigger picture for students. I think teaching is a great way to interact with students and help them, however, once I started working with students and not actually just teaching them it made me want to help them/the building/and the other teachers even more.”

Similarly to how she likes to help students, she shared that, “I hate the stigma that administrators are only for bad times. I want students to feel that we’re here for them, to support and see them through their experiences in school. I hope that the day will come that I can open any classroom door or walk into the cafeteria and the reaction is excitement or a sense of peace instead of concern or worry.” As many students and staff can see, this is already being implemented, as she is most often seen around the school building rather than in her office. While she is walking around, she is observing the students and teachers here and how they interact, adding that she loves how welcoming the people here are, and the sense of school pride and belonging that is created amongst these interactions. This has been especially helpful for Mrs. Gulnac as her first year as an assistant principal. According to her, “It’s been hard for me to be away from my family more, but they have been more than supportive, which has helped so much. I also really enjoy teaching math, so it is pretty strange not passing that knowledge to students.”

Considering that she has many new responsibilities, Mrs. Gulnac likes to spend her time off doing things she really enjoys, such as reading. However, she usually can be found and at events or sports that her children are participating in, which she also loves. During the fall and winter months, she spends a lot of her weekends at competitive cheerleading competitions with her daughter, Lexi Gulnac, who attends Beaty-Warren Middle School, or at Thiel College football games to watch her other daughter, Marissa Gulnac, cheer on the sidelines.

Now that you know a little bit more about Mrs. Gulnac, be sure to say “hi” to her in the halls and make her feel extra welcome. The Squire wants to extend a huge thank you to Mrs. Gulnac for answering our questions and being an amazing addition to our school community.
