     One common thing that teenagers have in common this time of year is they are partaking in golfing. Golfing has struck teenagers by storm after Covid – 19 hit and golfing was one of the only things people could do. Most people like myself took part in the sport and never looked back. Golfing has been around for hundreds of years, and it has usually been popular for people in the middle age and retired range.  More teens are picking up clubs each year, and Warren County is one of the best places to start.

     Warren County offers four great golf courses for people to play the leisure time activity. Those courses consist of Cable Hollow golf club, Blueberry Hill golf course, and Jackson Valley golf club. All of those courses are open to the public and Warren also offers a private course for members at Conewango Valley Country Club. The most popular club/course out of those four is typically Cable Hollow, where a lot of people at Eisenhower High School golf.

   “Cable Hollow Golf course is where I’ve been golfing, I have been golfing there for a couple years now,” Cam Jakubczak a senior at Eisenhower and avid golfer shared some of golf thoughts with The Squire. Cam made sure to tell us that he has been playing golf since age three, “First time I swung a club was near 15 years ago. My family and especially my Dzia Dzia (Grandfather) are really into the sport and got me into it.”

     Cam likes to rock the old wooden drivers and steel irons with no complaints, “My favorite club in my bag is my 10 iron (Pitching Wedge); I never seem to hit a bad shot with it.” Cam idolizes a lot of professional golfers to shape his game around, but one sticks out to him the most. “Rory McIlroy is a golfer I look up to the most and I’d love to get his insight of the game and maybe get some swing tips wile playing 18 holes with him,” he explained.

     One thing every golfer has is a handicap, even if they don’t know it. A handicap in golf is how many shots over par a golfer shoots on average. Cam is an average handicap of 13.9 on 18 holes. The Squire thanks Cam for taking the time out of his day to answer questions.

     If you are wanting to start in the golf world, there are many ways to start. The golf courses themselves offer clubs for purchase and so does Dunham’s sports in Warren.
