Every issue, The Squire interviews one teacher, which helps students learn more about the teachers and faculty. This issue, The Squire decided to interview Ms. Livingston. Ms. Livingston is an English Language Arts teacher who has been teaching for 28 years, 24 of which were at Eisenhower.
I have Ms. Livingston as a teacher, and I, along with many of her other students, enjoy Ms. Livingston’s kind, positive and understanding personality. The Squire sat down with Ms. Livingston to let the students get to know her a little bit more. Here’s what she had to say:
The Squire: What part of teaching do you enjoy most, and why?
Ms. Livingston: I enjoy interacting with the students, taking joy when they finally get a concept that was a challenge, listening to their perceptions of books we are reading in class which give me fresh perspectives, and coming up with creative and different activities because learning is fun.
TS: What or who inspired you to become a teacher?
ML: My parents did. They were my first teachers. My dad and aunts were schoolteachers. My sister teaches Middle School English. I also had two of the most awesome English teachers in the world, Mr. Cavanaugh and Mr. Larabee. They made ELA fun and interesting.
TS: If you were not a teacher and you could have any job in the world, what would it be and why?
ML: I would have been a meteorologist as I am a bit of a weather geek. I could watch the Weather Channel all day long.
TS: Are there any goals or dreams you are currently pursuing?
ML: I like writing, and I would love to publish a children’s book based on an old family legend. I also am going to try my luck on the craft fair circuit. I would like to someday own a Yellow Labrador, which I will name Atticus.
TS: What significant events or experiences shaped you into the person you are today?
ML: My 8th grade history teacher always told us that we are the products of our past experiences. Everything we do, or say, or think, adds up to who we are and who we can be. I can’t just pick one thing because they have all either taught me something or shaped my life in some respect.
TS: What are some of your favorite things to do outside of work?
ML: I love reading and crafting, especially crocheting.
TS: How do you spend your weekends and your days off?
ML: I do things I don’t have time to do during the week. I enjoy visiting my brother Bill and sister Cathy. I like going to Erie and seeing the newest items at Barnes and Noble and Michaels.
TS: Do you have any unique talent or abilities? If so, what unique ability do you have?
ML: I have always been a person who thinks outside of the box. I love exercising my creativity.
TS: Since you teach ELA, describe your favorite book.
ML: This is really tough, as I have loved many books over the years. I can perhaps narrow it down to genre and author. I love mystery novels, and I love the books of Mary Higgins Clark.
The Squire would like to thank Ms. Livingston for her interview. We hope this article encourages students to stop by Ms. Livingston’s room and say “Hi.” Here at The Squire, we also encourage students to take the time to get to know more about your teachers, just like Ms. Livingston.
