The 66annual Grammy Awards took place on February 5, 2024, filled with lots of fashion, drama, and, of course, a huge announcement from Ms. Taylor Swift. In this article, we will cover all of the above, including some of the winners from the ceremony.
Decked out in designer clothes, diamonds, and dazzling accessories, this year’s red carpet looks are ones for the books. Upon arriving at the red carpet, Swift was seen in a stunning Schiaparelli couture look, with the star of the show being her long white gown with a thigh-high slit. Swift completed the look with long black opera gloves, black heels, and diamond jewelry by Lorraine Schwartz, one of which had a watch face set to midnight as an easter egg to her nominated album, Midnights, which won Best Pop Vocal Album, breaking the record for the most wins in another category, with this being her fourth win for Album of the Year.
Along with Swift, singer, Lana Del Rey, made her appearance in a monochromatic black outfit, consisting of a floral dress, black heels, lots of bows and jewelry by Fred Leighton. While she didn’t win anything this year, she was nominated for many awards, including album of the year, song of the year, best pop duo/group performance, best alternative music album, and best alternative music performance.
Much like Rey, music producer Jack Antonoff walked the red carpet in a classic black tux and simple white shirt. This year he won two awards, one for best non-classical producer for Swift’s Midnights and Rey’s Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd, along with album for the year, also for Midnights. It seems like this year black and white looks were a big hit among artists, considering that many of them walked the red carpet in those colors. One artist that did not conform to this theme, however, was singer and songwriter Tyla, as she was seen in a pistachio green Versace gown, covered with Swarovski crystals and many perfectly placed cutouts. This year, she won the Best African Music Performance with her viral song, Water.
Thankfully, there wasn’t another incident like the one at the 2022 Oscars, but there was definitely some drama. After accepting three awards, American rapper Killer Mike was taken into custody by the Los Angeles Police Department. It is said that he got into a physical altercation with an “over-zealous security guard” at the awards, which resulted with a misdemeanor against him.
On the brighter side of the drama, many fans were very surprised to see that world renowned singer Celine Dion was presenting the Album of the Year award. She is currently battling a rare neurological and autoimmune condition known as Stiff Person Syndrome, which gives Dion severe, painful muscle spasms, and a plethora of other symptoms that affects her ability to walk, sing and just overall function as she used to. As of now, it is unclear if Dion will ever go on tour, or even preform again, but, either way, everyone was delighted to see her at the awards. When she announced Swift as the winner gave the award to her, Swift then got on stage to give her acceptance speech and announced that she will be releasing a new album called The Tortured Poets Department on April 19, 2024. Many fans were expecting her to announce a release date for Reputation (Taylor’s Version), due to the many what we now know were red herrings and not easter eggs, that she has been dropping lately, only to put the icing on the cake by wearing a Reputation coded gown on the red carpet. Instead, she surprised us all with this major announcement that has fans thrilled.
