It’s the Christmas season, snow has just begun falling, and you know what that means; snow sports! According to Statista, 11.6 million Americans compete in snow sports, and, with all those people needing a place to go, where can Eisenhower students go to have some winter fun?
There are a few options within driving distance that are great choices for any kind of winter sport that might interest you. According to a poll done by Squire readers, the most popular places to go for snow sports are Peak n’ Peak at 69% and Holiday Valley at 28%. Seven Springs, which is a bit farther away, was least popular with only 3% of our followers preferring it. and 7 Springs and 3%.
The Squire interviewed senior Winnie Wolf about which winter resort she preferred, and she explained she likes to spend time at Holiday Valley in Ellicottville, NY. Ellicottville is a beautiful town with many fun stores and restaurants. Also, the hills at Holiday Valley are the perfect length, offering plenty of different slopes to offer its visitors.
Any one of these area resorts have a lot to offer, including snowboarding, skiing, tubing, and bobsledding. According to our readers, snowboarding is by far the favorite sport, with 65% of those who participated in the poll choosing that option for winter fun. Wolf shared with The Squire that she’s “…really excited to ski. I love the views of the woods and hills that come with skiing while being able to do something that gets me outside when it’s cold.”
While Eisenhower has many student athletes, many students maybe haven’t yet tried a winter sport. According to Statista, 12% of Americans haven’t competed in winter sports. So what is that transition like? Wolf encourages students to give these new sports a try, saying, “Winter sports are like [warmer] season sports because they provide a great way to stay fit while doing something enjoyable with your friends. Unlike [warmer] season sports, there aren’t always practices or competitions, but that part of it is kind of nice because it gives you the freedom to do it as much as you like.”
Even if you’ve never tried a winter sport, go out there and do something new this winter. You might enjoy it. For more information, check out the websites of the resorts mentioned in this article:
