Eisenhower Sports Own the Fall

By: Kyler Black

As the school year begins, so do fall sports. Eisenhower’s teams include girls volleyball, girls and boys soccer, girls and boys cross country, and the football team. This is the first season of the 2023-2024 school year for our varsity athletes.

At the time of this publication, the girls volleyball team has a down record, but they look to fight for a spot in playoffs. The Squire interviewed senior Emilie Jones about the team’s strengths and the positives of the season so far. She said, “Success has come from everyone trying to keep a positive attitude.” Volleyball’s captains include the setters: Senior, Carley Christianson, and, sophomore, Lexi Pascuzzi. Eisenhower’s volleyball team looks to improve from their record as the season continues.

Both of Eisenhower’s soccer teams are off to a good start, beginning the season for both the girls and the boys as the athletes are working hard to get things rolling. The Squire sat down to interview senior, Payton Frank, and junior, Logan Degnan, to ask some questions about the weaknesses of the team and how they are trying to improve. Frank shared, “Practices have been tough, but for the playoffs they need to continue this way.” Frank expressed the fact that there has been a little struggle, but they are working hard in practice to improve their faults. Degnan had to say, “We play into our strengths, which is definitely our team’s speed.” Eisenhower soccer teams are working hard to improve their records for upcoming playoffs, which both teams are pushing for.

Cross Country has been working hard keeping races competitive. The Squire interviewed sophomore, Trenton Courtney, about the challenges experienced this year, and he expressed that he has been dealing with a hip injury but is slowly working through it. Courtney also said, “Success has come from constantly training as hard as possible.” The cross-country team is pushing hard to be ready for their individual and team playoffs.

Eisenhower football’s record is not as strong as last year’s winning season, but they are constantly trying to improve. The football team is lead by quarterback Shawn Pascuzzi on the offensive side and linebacker Tucker Lindell on the defensive side. The Squire interviewed Pascuzzi about the remaining season and he responded with “…we need to just keep pushing in practice to get back to where we were last year in the D-10 game.” Eisenhower football has been working every day to get better.

Eisenhower fall sports have all been doing good work in their fields. They all have been motivated for success and doing their jobs. The Squire wishes good luck for the rest of the fall season to our sport teams.
