Dancing through a Knight Out of this World

By: Avalynne Russell

This year, September 23 was a very special and fun-filled day for many highschoolers at Eisenhower, as we had a Homecoming dance that was truly a ‘Knight out of this World.’ Planned by Student Council, this year’s dance was a space and galaxy theme that featured many shades of blue, pink and purple, along with many fun lights, stars, great music, and, of course, the students who were all dressed up in their best hoco attire. The Squire interviewed Student Council advisor, Mrs. Lobdell, to get a little bit more of an inside scoop as to what Homecoming is like from the planning perspective, along with a general overview of that went down on this sparkling night.

When students arrived at the event, Student Council had it perfectly planned and beautifully decorated, complete with lights, balloons, stars, a disco ball, and a flawless backdrop to take photos at to look back on the memorable night. Many students may have noticed how the DJ situation was different this year, as Student Council bought their own equipment and made a playlist compiled of songs that the student body picked to listen to at the dance! Since the dance was so amazing this year, we asked Lobdell about what all goes on behind the scenes to plan and prepare for such a huge night, and she responded with, “Oh my goodness, SO MUCH! Homecoming court nominations, homecoming court voting, homecoming court practice, coronation during halftime of the football game, purchasing of decorations for the dance, decorating, DJ equipment, selling tickets, and so much more!” The Squire also wanted to know how they came up with this theme, and Lobdell stated that, “Our theme is chosen each year by our Student Council. The executive committee gathers ideas and presents them and then we vote as a Student Council for the final pick.” With this being said, we can all better understand and appreciate the hard work that Student Council puts into this event to make it the best night ever for students who attend.

Obviously, most of Homecoming consisted of students dancing the night away under the disco ball and stars to all of their favorite songs, but Homecoming court, along with your 2023 Homecoming king and queen was also introduced at the dance! This year’s court consisted of freshmen, Kendyll Tome and Mason Degnan; sophomores, Haley Highhouse and Bryce Wilkins; juniors, Cali Chapman and Jaydon Chase; seniors, Katie Bunk, Jason Rohlin, Julia Gesing, Kyler Black, Emilie Jones, Shawn Pascuzzi, Mikenzie Miller, Kris Bunk, Sydney Weissinger and Lex Leamon; and, of course, your king and queen, seniors, Payton Frank and Derek Childs. Frank and Childs both proudly wore their crowns as they danced their hearts out all night long.

As most of the students know what Homecoming is like, we asked Lobdell what she loves most about the dance, and she said that, “My favorite thing about chaperoning homecoming is seeing everyone in their dressed-up attire. I also love having the opportunity to talk with students outside of the classroom and watch all of our hard work be a success!” Since the students seem to enjoy all aspects of homecoming, with excitement building all week, The Squire also wanted to know what Lobdell’s favorite part of Homecoming is from an administrative perspective, and she shared that, “My favorite part about Homecoming is how it boosts school spirit and morale. From spirit week to the pep assembly to the dance itself, the school is buzzing with activity and excitement.”

All in all, Homecoming was a huge success this year.  The Squire wants to thank Lobdell for taking time out of her very busy schedule to answer our questions, along with Student Council for creating a very memorable and perfect night for us all.
